The Fifth Annual Moldovan-American Convention (MAC5), entitled "Diaspora, Engage! Building social, economic and cultural bridges between Moldova and North America" took place place in San Francisco, CA on September 28-30, 2018.
The Moldovan-American Convention is a public platform for dialogue and communication, advocating for expanding economic, cultural and political connections between the North America and the Republic of Moldova.
Its 5th edition focused on current state of affairs in the Republic of Moldova and Diaspora's increasing role in bringing a positive change to our country of origin. Discussion topics included how this country’s situation is viewed in a larger geopolitical context, threats and opportunities of newly adopted mixed system for 2019 parliamentary elections, electoral procedures for candidates and voters living abroad and role of independent media and civil society in providing unbiased and non-partisan information to the diaspora. The Convention also discussed professional and business successes & opportunities of Moldovan community in North America and how they are or may be benefiting people of the Republic of Moldova.
MAC5 continued to strengthen the public platform for enhanced dialogue on Moldova that was set up by its first four editions. Champions in business, academic and entertainment sectors of Moldovan descent recognized for excellence in their professional fields, together with the leaders of Moldovan communities and diaspora organizations from North America, were among the participants of the fifth Moldovan-American Convention.
